It was a trap! X-Wing/TIE Fighter info not coming soon?
G4's Patrick Klepek inquired as to the future of the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter series during an interview with LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez, who teased us like the teasing teaser that he so obviously is.
"We don't have any announcements now, but stay tuned," said Rodriguez. "We will soon….."
This, along with Mechwarrior, is among the top franchises in my resurrection pool. I'd be absolutely ecstatic if it happened.
Hey, they can give it to Totally Games. They're still around, and they most certainly aren't doing anything worthwhile at the moment. I'd love to see Lawrence Holland back in action.
But, and we all know this is going to be an issue in the entire existence of this game, I hope to god they don't remove the simulation aspects. There's no point in making a new X-Wing/TIE Fighter if they're just going to make Rogue Squadron.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
"...We have finished pre production on our newest franchise, Gungan Vs. Tie Fighter. We really wanted to explore the effect the noble gungan race had on the intricacies of star fighter combat, so in this new epic adventure you play as Nal-Nal Bonkers, a young gungan pilot that takes to the stars in a newly developed sea star class gungan fighter craft. You will mostly be fighting against the newly formed empire. We decided not to have players waste their time with playing the empire, since Nal-Nal is a really engaging character. That, and no star wars fan really likes to play the bad guy..."

I wouldn't be terribly suprised to see this, sadly...

Seriously though, the past decade's attention spent on X-Wings, the Republic, the Rebels, and Jedi is sickening. I just want a game that makes it feel righteous again to fly around in a TIE fighter clamping down on pirates and traitors 8-) That is, unless they go with New Republic fluff, where the roles are reversed and some of the New Republic isn't all that honest either. Hmm... a rogue Empire fleet fighting for survival and bringing justice to the Star Wars universe...
Going from X-Wing (balancing shields versus engine versus energy for the quads) to TIE Fighter (balancing cannon energy versus engines versus a new change of pants everytime something came gunning for your ass) was a hell of a jump.
Then you get the TIE Advanced and/or Defender and just violate things en masse.
So many fond memories from both, however. Except for X-Wing Campaign 2, Mission 4. Fuck you, freighter Phoenix. Fuck you.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
I would pump all my shield energy in to my engines and fly circles around pretty much anything other than a TIE-Interceptor. I could easily out-run torpedoes.
This was the first game I bought a Joystick for.
Even fully charged the A-wing shields did shit to stop you for turning into powder when a blaster shot got close so I just said fuck it, I'll die, respawn and torpedo their ass back to last weekend.
This thread clearly needs more Assault Gunboat love.
clearly...
I dunno... not overly fast, doesn't take that much punishment, and while heavily armed, once those concussion missiles (as I recall they were) run out, you really lose a lot of the punch it had.
Now, a Chiss Clawcraft, however...
I got nuttin'. I just wanted to say Chiss Clawcraft.

I don't see how this could be a console release. You HAVE to have a keyboard. It doesn't work without one..
False. I just re-played through Tie Fighter on my PC 2 years ago. I didn't have any other joystick around the house anymore, so I used my 360 controller. I was able to map nearly everything onto it with some effort. With a little interface creativity they could definitely get it all on there.

I find nothing funnier than disabling an enemy player's craft then picking away at it's hull laughing maniacally.
Maybe that's just me.
Seriously speaking though, I've always prefered a heaver shielded craft over the tin foil for armor T/F or T/Is. That and the Ion Cannon has it's moments. The T/Adv and the T/Def were definitely the cream of the crop though.

If you mean me, you can be sure that I will fall on my sword like a good Roman if this turns out to be nothing.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)

Fuck that noise.
TIE Advance 4 life, dawgs.
Real manly men fly TIE Interceptors!
I am in complete agreement.
And the Y-Wing is CLEARLY the Rebel ship of champions. Nothing says "Ace Pilot" like a ship that's duct-taped together.
This is an Advanced:

Actually that's Darth Vader's TIE Advanced which was basically the prototype
The actual production line TIE Advance had the notches in each wing like this
...why do I know this

I would, however, also accept Missile Boats. I have such a soft spot for those stubby little death machines.

That's how you know ace Imperial pilots earn their accolades.
